Silent Night Chapel - Oberndorf next to Salzburg

This is where the Christmas carol "Silent night, holy night" originated.

The windows of the chapel display images of the creators of the song: Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber. Nearby located are Joseph Mohr's house and the Silent Night museum, where visitors can listen to versions of "Silent Night" in different languages - in Inuit, for example, or in Tagalog, which is spoken in the Philippines.

The commemoration in honour of the song writers takes place in the evening of December 24th every year, outside the Silent-Night-remembrance chapel; thousands of people from all around the world arrive each year to watch and listen, and in the end gather round and sing "Silent Night" together in their own mother tongues.
